Joseph A. Perry, known professionally as Joey Cross, is an American TV writer, editor, and producer, mentor, teacher and public health professional...
Cross was born and grew up middle class in small town Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Samuel Perry-Cross, an entrepreneur and retired State Farm Insurance agent. His mother, Valerie Perry-Cross, is a retired educator and high school level Superintendent of 32 years. He credits a personal relationship with God, strong ties to education and his father’s “no quit” attitude as a few of the greatest reasons for his success.
Cross began writing at the age of five and created his first short story with fictional characters by age seven. His natural ability to tell stories and produce school plays at such an early age transitioned him into the Gifted and Talented class in elementary school. He also developed his love for sports, fitness, and health through gymnastics with grade school teacher Ms. Wild.
Joey Cross' life and career has spanned several continents and multiple genres. Educated in the US, he got his professional start in New York City before traveling the world to produce independent projects, and finally settling back down on the East Coast. After receiving his BA in Communications with a concentration in TV and Film, Cross joined NYC's Teatown Communications Group where he duplicated TV titles like HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, and The Barbara Walters Special for ABC, while quality assuring many other projects for various clients.
With over 10 years of experience in the TV industry, having produced, edited and filmed shorts, music videos, live shows, commercials, TV shows, independent documantaries, and digital media, he is never one to shy away from a new challenge.
As a producer , his work on the two part music series show “Romeo Santos: Inside the Formula” (music show – mun2/NBC Universo) and 8 episodes of “Xtreme: On The Verge” (reality series – mun2/NBC Universo) garnered national attention and were both ranked as the #1 shows on the Latino network channel Mun2, respectively. His work as a Post-Producer and Project Manager of live and online media during the 2012 season of Amateur Night at the Apollo at the World Famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem, NYC was seen worldwide. He played a key role in developing a transmedia platform and oversaw digital media and live recording broadcasted for the web and wireless mobile apps, as well as creating "Breakin' Convention," a marketing promotional project for the USA network. Cross established and co-developed “ONE7 news & training” TV programming for the United States Navy for the U.S.S San Antonio ship’s SiteTV broadcast. The episodes effectively increased morale and level of knowledge through out the ship.
As an editor, he worked on music video projects for Aventura, Romeo Santos, and Xtreme; in addition, he has several credits in the national TV commercial and commercial spot realm.
He also helped cast the final contestants on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew Season 3 and MTV's StarMaker executive produced by Sean “Diddy” Combs and Mark Burnett.
He is also an internationally traveled content editor and creative producer. Cross has shot footage in Brazil, Mexico, Belgium, and Paris, France for wedding and documentary style projects.
Joey is no stranger to worldwide service, and is a Navy veteran with experience in medicine and healthcare. He is an advocate for health, wellness, and fitness, and also promotes lifestyle change to communities and youth. As a medical readiness program manager, he oversaw healthcare delivery to 1100 Sailors and Marines, and was a certified fitness leader, creating physical enhancement programs and provided individual training. He has worked with the military's Wounded Warrior Program as an assistant in the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth's Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department. Cross has his hand in several health initiatives within the Hampton Roads area, concerning the policy and health promotion for children and adolescents.
The military platform allowed him to employ his skills as a teacher, mentor and subject matter expert on career advice, higher education, strategy and leadership.
His combination of life experience and formal education play out in the services that he provides and his contributions to the lives of others. Cross holds a MA in Strategic Communication and MS Certification in Marketing from Liberty University, and a MPH in management and policy from a joint health professional program at Eastern Virginia Medical School/Old Dominion University.
During his eclectic professional adventure, he served on a Navy deployed unit to Israel, Oman, Bahrain, and Spain, and discovered a truer passion for storytelling, culture, and world healing. Joey is currently working on the launch of a Social Enterprise brand that fuses together, outside of the box thinking with lifestyle change, with new media at its core. He hopes to help companies, individuals, and youth communities to become better and more efficient entities.
“He has become an entrepreneurial-minded individual who works at the intersection of media, health, and education, and has traveled the world working with the United States Navy, non-profits, creative agencies, media companies, county offices, and individuals – artists, musicians, teachers, and youth.”
