On January 13, 2018, director Visionz and myself set out to capture the essence of a Gatsby themed wedding for a personal friend and my barber, Manny, and his wife Amber. I had worked with Manny several years ago as the producer of his Secret Birthday Engagement visual, so he brought me back for his special wedding day.
We started our day early around 10am and captured our last shot around 9:30pm. It wasn't all fun and games on this shoot. One of the biggest challenges of the day was shooting the actual ceremony which was scheduled for a 5:30pm slot; and in January, my team knew that it would be pitch black night outside. However, the couple was set on the cold winter evening for their special day, so I had to think quickly. We took Manny's father J.R. as a stand in and tested a light we had bought just days before. It worked like a charm, and not only illuminated the frames for our final visual delivery, but also created an intimate evening love story for those that attended the wedding in person. Most people and clients think, we just bring out a camera, shoot a few shots, and somehow magically edit a cinematic visual.
In most cases, this is not the CASE! Our production typically mimics the planning that a wedding coordinator goes through to make the day a success. We move swiftly from different cameras with multiple lenses to perfecting audio in the field to catch all of the great sounds of a wedding day happening in real time. Anything can wrong, and most times it does.
The style and theme of this couple's wedding made it a joy to capture. The table decorations, the Gatsby styled clothing, everything, was uniquely and specifically curated. The wedding trailer is now available to view in the wedding section of "my work." but for easy access, it has been embedded in this post as well. Stay tuned for a special behind the scenes visual with alternative footage from this project
